Rising Star Placemats & Napkin Ring Set

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn Two 3 ½ oz Skeins of Red and Green

Crochet Hook size K or 10 ½ or 6.50 mm

Tapestry Needle

Special Techniques: Chain Colour Change: Yarn over the new colour and draw the yarn through the last loop on the hook. Leave a short tail
of yarn on the back to be woven in later.

Single Crochet Colour Change: Colours are changed while completing the last stitch made with the previous colour. Work last sc before
colour changed indicated on chart until there are two loops on the hook. Drop the first colour and yarn over with new colour; draw the new
colour through the last two loops of the sc.

Star Chart: Each square on chart represents a sc st. Read chart from right to left on odd numbered rows and from left to right on even
numbered rows. Work evenly on 30 sts through out, following chart and colour key for colour changes. Attach new colours as needed.
When a colour is no longer used, break off yarn, leaving an end to weave in.

Directions: Using two strands of yarn as one, wind two balls of red and one ball of green with approximately 20 yds on each. Attach balls of
yarn when needed for colour changes.

Use two strands of yarn held together as one throughout.

Row 1: Ch 5 with red, ch 20 with green; ch 6 with red. Sc in second ch from hook and in each remaining ch across row, following row 1 of
chart for colour changes: 30 sc

Row 2-10: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across row, following rows 2-10 of chart for colour changes.

Rows 11-34: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across row with red, using yarn from skeins.

Rows 35-44: Ch 1, turn; turn chart and sc in each sc across row, following rows 35-44 for colour changes.

Fasten off all yarns at end of row 44. Use tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Napkin Ring:

Row 1: With tow strands of green, ch 7; sc in second ch from hook an din each remaining ch across row: 6 scs.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn; work 1 sc in each sc across row: 6 scs.

Repeat row 2 until piece measures approximately 5 inches.

Fold piece with right sides together so first and last rows meet, forming a ring. Work 1 row of sc, picking up sts form first and last rows for
seam. Fasten off yarns. Use tapestry needle to weave in ends. Turn right side out.
