White Lace Bell
Materials: 1 Ball of Knit-Cro Sheen
Crochet Hook Size 6 or 1.75 mm
White Glue or Fabric Stiffener
Cotton Balls
Tapestry Needle
Two Yds ½” Wide Ribbon
Thin Piece of Wire
Bell:
Starting at top edge ch 6. Join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 5 (for first tr and first ch-1), * tr in ring, ch 1. Rep from * 18 more times.
Join with sl st in 4th ch of ch-5. (20 sp made)
Rnd 2: Ch 2 for first hdc, * hdc in next ch-1 sp, hdc in next tr. Rep from * around, end
hdc in last ch-1 sp, join with sl st in top of ch-2.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 for first dc, dc in same st as joining st, ch 3, sc in top of last dc for first
picot, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook for second picot, dc in same st as joining st, ch 3,
sc in top of last dc for third picot, * sk 3 hdc, in next hdc work (2 dc, ch 3, sc in top of
last dc, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook, work 1 dc, ch 3, sc in top of last dc). Rep from *
around sk last 3 hdc, with sl st in top of ch-3 and break off (10 groups made).
Rnd 4: Make lp on hook and join with sl st in center picot of any group, ch 1, sc in
joining st, * ch 5, sk next 2 picots, sc in center picot of next group. Rep from * around
(work will cup), end ch 5, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 5: Ch 6 for first dc and first ch-3, sc in center st of next ch-5, ch 3, dc in next sc *
ch 3, sc in center st of next ch-5, ch 3, dc in next sc. Rep from * around, end ch 3,
join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch-6.
Rnd 6: Ch 9, dc in next dc, * ch 6, dc in next dc. Rep from * around, end ch 6, join in
3rd ch of ch-9.
Rnd 7: Ch 6, sc in next ch-6 lp, * ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 3, sc in next ch-6 lp. Rep from
* around, end ch 3, join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch-6.
Rnd 8: Ch 3 for first dc, in same st as joining st work (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) for first shell, *
in next sc work a V-st of (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc), in next dc work shell of (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).
Rep from * around, end with V-st in last sc, then join with sl st in top of ch-3 (there
are 10 shell sand 10 V-sts in round).
Rnd 9: Sl st in next dc and in ch-2 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 3, sc in ch-2 sp of
next V-st, ch 3, sc in ch-2 sp of next shell. Rep from * around, end ch 3, join with sl st
in first sc.
Rnd 10: Ch 7, dc in next sc, * ch 4, dc in next sc. Rep from * around, end ch 4, join
with sl st in 3rd ch of ch-7 (20 sp made).
Rnd 11: Ch 7, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in same st as joining st, * in next dc work (1
dc, ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook and 1 dc). Rep from * around, join with sl st in 3rd ch
of starting ch and break off.
Loop: Join thread with sl st in any sp near beg of shell, ch 10, then sl st in sp exactly
opposite joining, ch 1, turn and sc closely over chain. Break off.
Clapper:
To start, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. From now on, work in only back lp of each sc.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around. Do not join rnds.
Rnd 3: Work (2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc) all around.
Rnd 4-5: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 6: Insert cotton ball into crochet just made and sc in every other st until opening
is closed, then crochet a chain 1 ½” long. Break off. Do not stiffen clapper.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends.
To Stiffen Bell: If using white glue, mix ½ glue and ½ water in small disposable dish.
Dip bell into mixture, squeeze out excess liquid, shape into bell as it dries. Leave
overnight if necessary. If using fabric stiffener, follow manufacturer’s directions. Insert
chain of clapper into center top of bell and fasten securely.
Ribbon Bow: But ribbon in half. Following photo, hold both lengths of ribbon together
and make several large loops in center. Leaving long ends on each side of loops,
use thin piece of wire to hold loops in place. Glue to top of bell.
