Floral Trim for Vase
Materials: Lily Naturalee 100% Cotton Yarn 2 Balls White
         Crochet Hook Size G
         Fabric Stiffener
         White Cord Elastic
         Craft Glue
         Assorted purple, pink and yellow fabric paints in transparent and solid colours
         Pointed artist paint brush
         8” Vase

Each pansy = 3 ¼”

Pansy: (make 9):
Ch 6, join with sl st for ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, (ch 7, 3 dc in ring) 4 times, ch 7, join to top of beg ch 3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, sk next dc, dc in next dc, (15 tr in ch 7 sp, dc in next dc, sk next dc, dc in
next dc) 3 times, * ch 1, in next ch 7 sp work (tr, ch 1) twice and (dtr, ch 1) twice, and (trtr,
ch 1) 5 times and (dtr, ch 1) twice and (tr, ch 1) twice--large petal made *, dc in next dc, sk
next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * to * in next ch 7 sp for other large petal, join to beg ch 3.
Cut yarn.
Joining Rnd: Join yarn in first free ch 1 sp of first large petal of a pansy, ch 4, * dc in next
ch 1 sp, (ch 1 and dc in next ch sp) 11 times, ch 1, sk 1 sp, sc in sp between next 2 dc, ch
1, sk 1 sp on next petal, dc in next ch sp, (ch 1, dc in next ch sp) 12 times, dc in first ch sp
of first large petal of another pansy, ch 1; continue to rep from * until all pansy are joined,
join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4. Cut yarn.

Collar:
Ch an even number to fit around outer edge of vase, join with sl st in first ch, taking care
not to twist ch.
Rnd 1: Working over a length of cord elastic, * sc in next ch, ch 1, sk 1 ch; rep from *
around, join to first sc. Cut elastic and tie ends together, pulling elastic slightly so collar
will fit snugly.
Rnd 2: Sl st into first ch sp, ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), * dc in next ch sp, ch 1; rep from
* around, join to 3rd ch of beg ch.
Rnd 3: Sl st into first ch sp, working over a length of cord elastic, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc
in next ch sp; rep from * around, ch 1, join to first sc. Cut yarn. Cut and tie elastic as
before.

Finishing:
Use fabric stiffener to stiffen pansy ring, shaping flowers and letting dry on a plastic
covered surface.
Paining: Apply darker solid paint colour to center spokes of a pansy, then apply lighter
transparent colour around inner edge of each pansy petal. Paint each pansy, alternating
purples and pinks. Let paint dry. Use solid yellow to paint a “throat” in center of each
pansy. Place collar around edge of vase. Position pansy ring on vase over collar. Use
glue to glue each pansy to collar.
