Victorian Heart Wreath
Materials: 1 Crochet Cotton Ball of Ecru 400 yds
Crochet Hook Size 5
Wine Coloured Ribbon 2 yds of 3/8" wide

Finished Size Approximately 7" High and 8" Wide
Heart:
Starting on inside edge of heart, ch 120. Join with sl st in first ch to form a large circle.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same ch, sc in each of next 2 ch, hdc in each of next 3 ch, work (dc in next ch, 2 dc
in next ch) 16 times, work (dc in each of next 3 ch, 2 dc in next ch) 5 times, dc in next ch, 2 dc in ext
ch, work a shell of (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch, (this shell is the center of lower edge of heart), work 2
dc in next ch, dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, work (dc in each of next 3 ch, 2 dc in next ch) 5 times,
work (dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch) 15 times, work dc in next ch, hdc in each of next 3 ch, sc in each
of last 2 ch. Join with sl st in first sc (this is the center of top of heart).
Rnd 2: (beading rnd): Ch 1, sc in same sc, working in back lps of sc's work (ch 5, sk next 3 sts, sc in
next st) around to shell, in ch-3 sp of shell work (sc, ch 5, sc) then work (ch 5, sk next 3 sts, sc in next
st) around to beg of rnd, end ch 5, sk next 3 sts, join with sl st in first sc.
To Work A Lover's Knot Stitch:
*Lengthen the lp on hook to specified length, yo and draw new lp through st on hook, insert hook
under yarn that was drawn up for new lp and work 1 sc *( one knot stitch made). For each additional
Knot St, rep between *'s.
Rnd 3: Working into ch sts of ch-5 lps of last rnd, work 5 Lovers Knot Sts across every other ch-5 lp
as follows: sl st in first ch st of first ch-5 lp, ch 4 for first dc and first ch-1, lengthen lp on hook to
height of a dc and *(work 1 Lovers Knot St, dc in next ch of same lp, ch 1) twice, work 1 Lovers Knot
St and dc in same ch as last dc, ch 1, rep between parentheses twice more, sc in next ch-5 lp, then
dc in first ch of next ch-5 lp, ch 1. Rep from * around to within 3 ch-5 lps at lower edge of heart. Work
as before, but work 5 Lovers Knot Sts across each of these next 3 ch-5 lps, then complete rnd to
correspond to first side. Join and break off.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends. Starch and shape to dry. Shape ruffle as shown in pic.
Ribbon:
Starting and ending at lower edge of heart and leaving about 2" of extra ribbon at each end, weave
ribbon in and out of spaces on beading rnd. Push ends of ribbon to wrong side. Cut off excess ribbon,
sew ends together. For loop for hanging, cut a 12" long length of ribbon. Fold in half, make a knot 1"
from fold. Following photo, pin both ends in place on back of heart and sew securely. Decorate as
desired.
