Tree Potholder
Materials: Crochet Cotton 1 Ball Red, 1 Ball Green, few yds black and yellow.
Crochet Hook Size 2/0 (double zero) or 1.5 mm
Starting at center with red, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Make 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join rnds, but carry a contrasting colour thread up
between last and first sts of each rnd to indicate beg of rnds.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (14 sc).
Rnd 3: * 2 sc in next sc–1 sc increased; sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (21 sc)
Rnd 4: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around–7 sc increased.
Rnd 5: Increasing 7 sc evenly spaced, sc in each sc around. Repeat 5th rnd until piece measures 7 ½"
in diameter.
Next Rnd: Sl st in back loop only of each sc around. Break off and fasten.
Christmas Tree:
Starting at tip with green, ch 2.
Row 1: Make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: 2 sc in first sc, sc n next sc, 2 sc in last sc–1 sc increased at both ends. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Increasing 1 sc at both ends, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 4-7: Repeat 3rd row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8 & 9: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to within last 4 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Next 6 Rows: Repeat 3rd row. Repeat last 8 rows 5 times more. At end of last row, break off and
fasten.
Stand:
Staring at bottom with black , ch 11.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (10 sc).
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Increasing 1 sc at both sides, sc in each sc across (12 sc). Ch 1, turn.
Row 4 & 5: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat last 3 rows twice more. Break off and fasten. Sew top edge of stand to center along lower
edge of tree.
Trimming:
With yellow make a chain 18 inches long. Sew chain to tree as in pic. Cut off remaining chain.
Large Ornament:
Starting at center with yellow, ch 2
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.
Rnd 3: Increase 6 sc evenly spaced, sc in each sc around. Sl st in next st. Break off and fasten. Sew
onto tip of tree.
Small Ornament: (make 7):
Work as for large ornament until the 2nd rnd has been completed. Sl st in next st. Break off and
fasten. Sew to tree as shown.
Sew tree to potholder and chain a hanging loop.
