Squash Doily
Materials: Crochet Cotton Size 30 - 750 yds Gold
Crochet Hook Size 9/1.25 mm
Finished Size Approximately 22” x 23 ¼”
Notes: Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
With the appropriate hook, doily can be made using size 10 or 20 cotton.
Pattern Stitches:
Block (bl): A bl is made with 3 dc and will appear to have 4 dc; the first dc of bl is the
dc that defines the preceding bl or sp. A group of 3 bls will have 9 dc plus 1 dc of
preceding bl or sp.
Sp: A sp is made with ch 2, dc and will appear to have 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc; the first dc of
the sp is the dc that defines the preceding sp or bl.
Inc bl or bls at beg of row: Ch 5 (ch3 more for each additional bl inc), dc in 4th ch
from hook, dc in next ch #91 bl inc), dc in each of next 3 chs for each additional bl inc.
Inc bl or bls at end of row: Yo hook, draw up a lp in top of turning ch where last dc
was worked, yo, draw through 1lp on hook (base st), [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook]
twice (dc), * yo, draw up a lp in base st, yo draw through 1 lp on hook for next base
st, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from * once for 1 bl inc, rep from * 3
times for each additional bl inc.
Dec a bl at beg of row: ch 1, sl st in 3 sts across for each bl dec, to beg bl, ch 3, dc in
each of next 2 sts.
Dec at end of row: Leave 3 sts of each bl unworked.
Doily:
Row 1: Ch 52, beg in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across, turn. (49 dc or 16 bls)
Row 2: Inc 1 bl at beginning of row, dc in each dc across, inc 1 bl at end of row, turn.
(18 bls)
Row 3: Inc 6 bls at beg of row, dc in each of next 7 dc (2 bls), [ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in
next st] 14 times, dc in next 6 dc, inc 6 bls at end of row, turn. (8 bls; 14 sps; 8 bls)
Rows 4 - 135: Follow graph working bls and sps as indicated. At the end of row 135,
fasten off.
