Materials: 4 ply Worsted Weight Yarn–10 oz Lt Blue and Navy, 6 oz White, 3 oz Bright Red,
1 ½ oz Green, 1 oz Bright Orange and Black

Crochet Hook Size I/9 or 5.5 mm
Tapestry Needle

Finished Size Approximately: 33 inches wide  x 40 inches high

Special Techniques: Reading Charts:
Each square on charts represents 1 sc. Each color on chart represents a different color of
yarn. Read charts from right to left on odd numbered rows and from left to right on each even
numbered rows.
Roll a separate ball of yarn for every color change. Do not carry yarn across the back. Drop
current color when a new color is used without fastening off so that color can be picked up
again when it is needed on the next row.

Changing Colors: In st before color change, pull up a lp as if to sc and drop first color; yo and
pull new color through 2 lps on hook to finish the sc.

Snowman:
Row 1: (right side): With Lt Blue, ch 64. Sc in second ch from hook and in each remaining ch;
count. 63 sc.                 

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across row.

Rows 5-96: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across row, following snowman char for color changes.
Fasten off at the end of Row 96.

Snowflake Squares (make 4):
Row 1: (right side):With Lt Blue ch 22. Sc in second ch from hook and in each remaining ch;
count 21 scs.

Row 2-3: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across row.

Row 4-21: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across row, following snowflake chart for color changes.
Fasten off at end of Row 21.

Long Border: (make 2):
Row 1: (right side): With navy, ch 83. Sc in second ch from hook an din each remaining ch;
count 82 scs. (If the length of this piece does not equal the length of your afghan, rip back to
the starting chain and either add or omit some chs for a perfect fit)

Row 2-21: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across row. Fasten off at end of row 21. With tapestry
needle and navy, whip stitch a snowflake square to each short end of each small border
strip. Whipstitch one assembled strip to top of afghan and one to bottom as shown in photo.

Edging: Attach white with a sl st in any st along edge of afghan and ch 3 (counts as first dc);
dc in every st or in the end of every row around afghan, working 3 dcs in every corner and
ending with a sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off yarn. Use tapestry needle to weave in all
loose ends.
