Assembly: Arrange squares as shown on chart. To join, hold two squares with right sides together,
positioned (when possible) with 8 inch sewing length at upper right hand corner. Thread yarn, using
matching yarn when sewing length is not available, into yarn needle.
Carefully matching stitches of both squares, begin in one ch st at corner and sew with overcast st (in
outer loops only) across side, ending in ch st at next corner,. Continue to join squares this way into
rows, then sew rows together in same manner, always being sure that the four corner junctions are
firmly joined and well knotted. Trim yarn ends when afghan is assembled.

Trim:
Ear: Fold last yellow square in half, corner to corner. Using sewing length, sew together one side. With
open edges on top, position ear according to pattern. Sl st ear to afghan with remaining sewing length.

Bridle: Cut two 6-inch lengths of ribbon. Fold ends of ribbon under. With peach thread, hand sew
ribbon to afghan, referring to chart for placement.

Buttons: With blue yarn, sew buttons to afghan according to chart, knotting securely in back.

Tail: Cut thirty 28-inch lengths of blue yarn. Separate lengths into two groups of 15. Fold one group in
half. Checking pattern for placement, use size I crochet hook to draw the folded end through the
afghan, creating a loop. With hook, pull loose ends through loop and draw up knot firmly. Tie second
group in same manner, Carefully separate plies of each yarn to create a curly texture.

Mane: Cut approximately 260 6-inch lengths of blue yarn. Using four lengths per knot, tie yarn to
afghan in same manner as tail. Make two rows of knots along neck where shown on chart, attaching
them as close together as possible. Again, separate plies of each length of yarn.

Note: Because of the buttons and the lengths of yarn for the tail, a baby should not be left unattended
when on the afghan.
