Petal Potholder
Materials: Crochet Cotton 1 Ball White and 1 Ball Red or contrasting colour
Crochet Hook Steel Size 4
Potholder is made with double strand of thread throughout.
With red ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in 1st sc.
Row 2: Ch 1 and work 2 sc in each sc (16 sc), but red.
Row 3: Attach white, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, **puff st in next sc (puff st: thread over
hook, insert in st, pull loop through and up the length of a dc, *thread over hook, insert in same space,
pull loop though and up the same length, repeat from * once, thread over and pull through all loops on
hook but one, thread over and pull through 2 loops), 2 dc in next sc, repeat from ** all around ending
with puff st in last st, join in 3rd st of ch, drop white.
Row 4: Attach red and work 2 sc in each puff st and 2 sc in each dc (48 sc), join, drop red.
Row 5: Pick up white and work 1 sc in each of the next 11 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 6: *Working in back loop of sts only work 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in
each of the next 5 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Working through back loop of sts work 1 sc in each sc.
Row 8: Working in back loop of sts 1 sc in each sc working 3 sc in center sc sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 9: Working in back loop of sts 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last 2 rows twice, sl st down
side of pointed sections, 1 sc in each of the next 12 sc of 4th row, ch 1, turn. Repeat from * 3 times
but ending last repeat with 1 sc in last sc, join, cut white.
Round 1: Attach red in sc between points sc in same space, * 7 sc up side of pointed section, 3 sc in
corner, working through both loops work 1 sc in each of the next 8 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of
the next 8 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 7 sc down opposite side of same pointed section, sc in sc between
pointed sections, repeat from * all around, join in 1st sc.
Round 2: Working in back loop of sts for remainder of potholder work 1 sc in each sc, join.
Round 3: Work 1 sc in each sc increasing in center st at each of the 12 points, join, drop red. Repeat
the last 2 rows having next row white, 1 row red, 1 row white, 3 rows red, cut thread.
With white chain a hanging loops in sc and sew to potholder.
