Henny Penny Bib
Materials: Lily Sugar ‘n Cream 4 ply Cotton 1 2.5 oz ball of cream, gold
Small amount of Orange, Red, Black and White
Crochet Hook Size F or 4.00 mm
Tapestry Needle
Finished Size Approximately 15 ½ inches long x 11 inches wide
Bib:
Starting at lower edge, with cream, ch 45.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across (44 sc). Ch 1, turn. Rep row 2 for pattern unitl bib is 13 ½
inches from beginning.
Neck Shaping:
Row 1: Work across first 14 sc (do not work rem sts), ch 1, turn. Mark this edge for neck
edge.
Rows 2-8: Continue in sc, and dec 1 sc at marked edge, every other row 4 times (10 sc
rem). Break off. Sk center 16 sc, join yarn and work to end of row. Mark beg of row for
neck edge.
Starting with row 2, complete as for first side.
Border:
Rnd 1: With gold, sc evenly spaced around entire bib, work sc, ch and sc in each outside
corner. Join and break off.
Short Row: Starting at neck edge of shoulder, work shell border across shoulder edge,
side edge, lower edge, other side edge and shoulder edge: sl st in next sc, * sk 2 sc, work
5 dc in next sc, * sk 2 sc, sl st in next sc. Rep from * across. Break off.
Tie and Neck Edge:
Crochet a chain 12" long for first tie, then sc in each sc across neck edge, then crochet
another chain 12" long. Break off. Make a knot 1" from each end. Tie ends in bow.
Hen:
With gold, ch 5.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (4 sc). Ch 1, turn.
Row 2-8: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Work even on 18
sc for next 10 rows.
Tail Shaping: Row 1: Sc across first 4 sc, turn. Dec 1 sc at this edge, every row 3 times.
Break off.
Head Shaping:
Row 1: Sc in center 5 sc, sc in each of last 9 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Ch 1, turn. Dec 1 sc at beg and end of every other row: 4 times. Break off.
Beak: With red, ch 4. Work 3 dc in 4th ch from hook. Break off.
Nose: With orange, ch 4. Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch, break off.
Top of Head: Mark off center 3 sts at top of head. With red, work 4 dc in first sc, 1 sc in
next sc and 4 dc in next sc. Break off.
Eye: Following pic, embroider eye with black and white.
Wing: With orange, ch 5.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 2-3: Inc 1 sc in beg of each row. Work even on 6 sc at beg for 3 rows more. Dec 1
sc at beg of each row until 1 st left. Break off. Following pic; sew wing, beak, nose and top
of head to hen. Pin hen in place and sew to bib. With orange, embroider leg.
Finishing: Weave in all ends.
