Fido Dog Sweater
Materials: Knitting Worsted Weight Yarn 4 oz medium size
Crochet Hook Size G or 4.0 mm
3 Buttons ¾” Diameter
Tapestry Needle
Note: This simple pattern can easily be adjusted to fit a larger or smaller dog. Simply
measures length and width of dog and increase or decrease length of original starting
chains.
Pattern consists of 4 pieces to be sewn together.
Neckband:
Ch 53.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (first ch 3 counts as dc), dc in each ch across to last ch, 2
dc in last ch, ch 1, turn. (52 dc)
Row 2: (Buttonhole Row): Working in sc, sc in each dc across to within last 6 dc, ch 3, sk
next 3 dc, sc in each of last 3 dc, ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Dc in same st as turning ch 3, dc in each sc across to ch 3 space, work 3 dc in ch
3 space, dc in each sc to last sc, 2 dc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Work even in sc. Do not break off but continue around outer edge of piece in sc
working 2 sc in each corner st. End off.
Collar:
Ch 22.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (20 dc)
Row 2: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each of next dc to last dc, 2 sc in last dc, ch 3, turn. (22 sc)
Row 3: Work dc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: Repeat row 3.
Row 6: Repeat row 2.
Row 7: Repeat row 3.
Row 8: Work even in sc. (26 sc)
Do not break off. Finish as for neckband.
Body Piece:
Ch 52.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (50 dc)
Row 2: (Buttonhole Row): Sc in each of first 18 dc, ch 3, sk 3 dc, sc in each of next 7 dc,
ch 3, sk 3 dc, sc in each of next 19 dc, ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Work even in dc, ch 1, turn. (50 dc)
Row 4: Work even in sc, ch 3, turn.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 13 times. Finish as for other pieces.
Belly Band:
Ch 22.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (20 dc)
Row 2: Sc in each dc across, ch 3, turn. Work even working 1 row in dc, 1 row in sc
alternately for 14 rows. Finish as for other pieces.
Finishing:
Place foundation chain of neck band and foundation chain of collar together so that the
left side of the neck band is even with the left side of the collar - the right side of the neck
ban extends about 1 ½”. Sew in place. Sew opposite side of collar piece to wider edge of
body piece. Lace left side of belly band (the side opposite the buttonholes) in center of
right side of body piece and sew in place (the belly band extends on same side as neck
band). Fit coat to dog and sew buttons to fit taking care to line them evenly with
buttonholes.
