Checkerboard Carriage Set
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn; 5 (3 ½ oz) Skeins each pink and blue
Crochet Hook Size G/6 or 4.50 mm
Finished Size Approximately 28” x 32”
Carriage Cover:
First Strip: (make 4):
Row 1: With pink ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, ch 1, turn. (15 sc)
Row 2: Sc in first sc, * yo, draw loop through same sc, skip next sc, draw loop through next
sc of previous row, yo, draw through 3 loops on hook, yo, draw through last 2 loops, sc in
same sc, rep from *, end with sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: (right side): Sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Rep row 2.
Rows 5-10: [Rep rows 3 and 4] 3 times.
Row 11: Sc in each st across, fasten off.
Row 12: Attach blue, ch 2, in both loops hdc across.
Rows 13-21: Ch 2, in back loops hdc across, at end of row 21, fasten off blue.
Row 22: Attach pink, ch 1, sc across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 23-32: Rep rows 2-11.
Repeat these 2 blocks, alternating colours, until 8 blocks are completed, end with blue
block.
Second Strip: (make 3):
Row 1: With blue ch 16, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across. (15 hdc counting ch-
2)
Rows 2-10: Ch 2, turn, in back loops hdc across, at end of row 10, fasten off blue.
Rows 11-21: With pink repeat rows 22-32 of first strip.
Rows 22-32: With blue rep rows 12-21 of first strip.
Repeat these 2 blocks, alternating colours, until 8 blocks are completed, end with pink
block.
Joining:
Hold 2 strips wrong sides together, blocks alternating and beg ch at same end, with blue
sc together, fasten off. Repeat until all strips are joined.
Border:
Rnd 1: With wrong side facing attach blue in any st, ch 1, sc in each st and row end
around with 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st in first sc, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 2: Sc around, with 3 sc in each center corner sc, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off,
turn.
Rnd 3: With wrong side facing attach pink in any sc, ch 1, sc in same place, * yo draw loop
through same sc, skip next sc, draw loop through next sc of previous rnd, yo, draw
through 3 loops on hook, yo, draw through last 2 loops, sc in same sc, rep from * around,
do not skip sc in corners, end last rep with sl st in first sc, fasten off, turn.
Rnd 4 & 5: Sc around, with 3 sc in each center corner, sc join with sl st in first sc, ch 1,
turn, at end of rnd 5 fasten off.
Edging:
Attach pink in 3rd sc after corner, ch 1, sc in same place, * skip next 2 sc, dc in next sc,
[ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (picot), dc] 4 times in same sc as last dc, skip next 2 sc, sc
in next sc, rep from * around, at corners skip only 1 sc, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off.
Weave in all loose ends.
Pillow: (make 2):
Row 1: With pink ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn. (11 sc)
Row 2: Sc in first sc, * yo, draw loop through same sc, skip next sc, draw loop through next
sc of previous row, yo, draw through 3 loops on hook, yo, draw through 2 loops, sc in
same sc, rep from *, end with sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: (right side): Sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Rep row 2.
Rows 5-8: [Rep rows 3 and 4] twice.
Row 9: Sc in each st across, fasten off.
Row 10: Attach blue, ch 2, in both loops hdc across.
Rows11-17: Ch 2, in back loops hdc across, at end of row 17 fasten off blue.
Row 18: Attach pink, ch 1, sc across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 19-26: Rep rows 2-9.

Join as for carriage robe. Repeat border and edging of carriage robe.
